Susan Carlson describes her approach to interior decorating as "creative practicality."

Her most important objective is to create rooms that are not only beautiful, but also livable and relevant to the way her clients lead their lives. Equally important is the ability to deliver beauty and functionality with respect for each individual budget by creatively mixing different styles, periods and price points to develop a distinctly elegant look that not only makes a statement but makes sense, too.

"I don't believe in a rip-and-replace approach. I begin by looking at what the client already owns and what is important to them -- family pieces, art, sentimental accessories -- and use those items as a jumping off point. The key is to create a look that is authentic to the people who live there."

Carlson brings to decorating a unique blend of creativity and business know-how that draws upon over two decades of experience creating and managing brand images for businesses and individuals. Carlson believes that creating a beautiful interior is not unlike creating a great brand: It starts with what is authentic to a home and its owners and builds on those attributes to create a narrative that best reflects their personalities.

Prior to opening her firm, Carlson worked in advertising and marketing in New York City. She began her career in Washington, D.C. as a Capitol Hill staffer and earned an MBA from Georgetown University.
